Savviest Deal on Petrol - 21.5% discount

For the drivers out there, here's the 1st goodie from moi, the queen.

Cracking your head to find the cheapest way to tank up your prize vehicle? Overloaded and overwhelmed trying to work out the best deal with all the different site discounts, member discounts, credit card discounts? Fret no more. Help is here. The best deal is here.

Does 10-12% discount off your petrol bills sounds good to you? How about 10-12% discount at ANY petrol station of your choice ON TOP of whatever other site discounts, member discounts etc? And not just on petrol, but get a 10-12% CASH Rebate on everything else they sell there (magazines, drinks, food, groceries blah blah blah)?

And if you are not fussy about the petrol station, you can get an additional 11% discount on top of the above mentioned 10-12% discount. That translate to almost 21.5% discount for petrol! Cool?

Here's how to get it.

Step 1
Get the
Standard Chartered XtraSaver debit card. Maintain $20,000-$50,000 in the account and you get to enjoy 10-12% discount at ALL petrol stations ON TOP of all other site discounts offered.

One other benefit of this debit card is that ALL NETS transactions are given 0.5% cash rebates. This means that if you use this card to pay your ANY other credit card bills at AXS machines, you get cash rebates too. Eg you pay say $3000 for your credit card spending (ANY credit card bill), you actually get a bonus of $15 extra back into your XtraSaver account.

Also, you get 1-1.5% Cash Rebate off ALL other Mastercard transactions made with this card.
(See
Standard Chartered website for more details on this card)

Step 2
Apply for the Safra Card. With the
Safra Card, you will get 11% discount off petrol prices at Caltex Petrol Stations.

So if you combine Step 1 and Step 2 (ie. Show your Safra Card at Caltex Petrol Stations and use your XtraSaver debit card to make payment) Voila, 21.5% discount off petrol! Say one's monthly petrol expenditure is $300, that translate to $780 petrol savings a year!

Long live the Queen...

(by the way, the Queen is not affiliated to any of the merchants mentioned. Info accurate at time of posting)

  2. Hi Piko

I think alot depends on the lifestyle and what is important to you.

Say if you want to get the best petrol savings and cash rebates for all other spendings, then Standchart Xtra Savers Card or Citibank Dividend Card would be some of the best around.

Say free parking in town is really useful for you and you like cash rebates at many of the Capitalandmalls, DBS Capitaland Card would be good.

If you shop a lot at Tangs, Robinsons, BHG etc, you can consider getting their respective co-brand cards like Citi Tangs (8%), OCBC Robinsons (5-10%), DBS BHG (5%) cards for good rebates at these outlets all year round.

If you prefer lots of Dining Deals, shopping deals, extra points at departmental stores and groceries, and you prefer to redeem points for shopping vouchers instead of cash rebates, then UOB Lady's card or Citibank Platinum (5X points at Supermarkets and Department Stores)are some good choices.

For me, to get more mileage, I have more than one card. I have cards which I use specifically at certain departmental stores (Tangs, Robinsons). I also have a card for my petrol spending (StandChart Xtra Saver). Then the rest of the spendings I will spend with cards that give me higher rebates at the respective outlets.

    Hope this helps. :)
